US-based chemical company Pinova Inc, part of DRT (Les Dérivés Résiniques et Terpéniques) Group, has announced that it is to demolish its chemical plant in Brunswick, Georgia.

Operations at the Brunswick manufacturing facility, where plant-based resins for plastics were produced, were shut down in April of 2023, following a fire that was reported to have raged for over 24 hours and that destroyed its “core production assets and infrastructure”.

Pinova Inc, which had operated the plant since 2010, said: “Following the fire, a top to bottom investigation of the fire’s damage made it clear that it will not be economically feasible to bring the plant back online,” and that it would not re-open the facility.

Pinova and the site’s former owner and operator Hercules, which has retained non-operational portions of the site, have now begun removing all materials and the remaining buildings from the Brunswick site. The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
