Cat launches new excavator and dozer at ConExpo

The Cat 319 slots into the company’s compact radius line-up between its 15-ton 315 and 25-ton 325 models.

It said the new 19-20t machine would meet customer demand for transportation, lifting, safety and versatility, offering “similar or better” capabilities to its familiar 317 next-generation platform, in a compact radius format.

Aimed at construction, utility work, road maintenance and land-clearing jobs, the machine is built around a wider, 2.8m (9.2ft) undercarriage.

It draws its power from a Cat 3.6 diesel engine generating 99kW (133hp) and has a maximum digging depth of 6550mm (21.5ft) and a maximum loading height of 6,430mm (21.1ft).

Brian Stellbrink, senior market professional at Caterpillar, said, “That width is all about extra stability. For example, it provides the 319 with the capability to handle TRS17 – the rotation work tool attachment that aids precision and helps improve jobsite efficiency – as well as a variable angle boom (VAB) or blade, yet remains comfortably within the maximum transport width of 3.0 m (9.8 ft).

“That added stability, enhanced by the 2.2 m (7.2 ft) track gauge, also allows for up to a 7% boost to lifting capacity, including the option to work with a 1 m3 (1.31 yd3) General Duty bucket. Meanwhile, the compact design and short swing radius focus not just on versatility but safety too.”

Next-generation D8 XE dozer

The new D8 XE dozer offers improved fuel efficiency and easier maintenance through a Cat C15 engine that drives a generator that powers an electric motor connected to the final drives, instead of a conventional torque convertor.

It also features an updated cab with more space than the previous design and improved all-round visibility. There is also an adjustable air-suspension seat and 10-inch (254mm) touchscreen display providing machine overview, technology access, and operator tips.

Technologies included in the Cat Assist with Attachment Ready Option (ARO) suite of features include Stable Blade, to help produce a smoother surface in manual operation; Blade Load Monitor, which uses GPS to provide real-time feedback on blade and machine load, ground conditions, and track slip; Steer Assist; Traction Control; and Slope Indicate, which informs operators about uphill/downhill grades to optimize slope work. A further optional 360 Vision screen is also available.

It also offers Remote Troubleshoot to allow a Cat dealer to diagnose problems without a call-out, while Remote Flash enables over-the-air (OTA) updates

Initially available in North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, the D8 XE will be available in the second half of 2026.
