Case short reach excavator in ‘sustainable solution‘

United Kingdom-based scrap recycling specialist Moores Metals has purchased a CX245DSR short reach excavator from Case Construction Equipment.

Based in Staffordshire in the English midlands, the company bought the machine, which is fitted with a Powerhand VRS200 recycling system, from local dealer Robert Coates Plant Sales.

Already the owner of a used Case 821E wheeled loader, Moores needed a zero tail swing excavator able to operate a congested site, but with a nimble attachment.

The combination of the excavator and the recycling attachment means the machine can hold down and clamp vehicles, while oversized machines can be cut to size using the grapple mounted shear.

Andrew Burkinshaw of Moores Metals explained: “At the end of the Powerhand VRS200 arm there is a rotating pincher, which means the operator can use the same machine to easily separate ferrous and non-ferrous matals from the enginer and transmission assemblies and remove the cylinder head from the engine block.

“Disassembling the vehicle rather than crushing means you can separate precious metals like aluminium, copper, and other materials such as plastics.”
