Easy to transport and with a 2.4 tonne tool capacity, the Komatsu PC240LCD-8 has been designed with smaller demolition sites in mind

Komatsu has added to its range of demolition specific excavators with the introduction of two PC240 models, the 20.3 tonne PC240HRD-8 and the 28.6 tonne PC240NHRD-8. The company says that the new machine provides a solution for the demolition of domestic buildings and small industrial units.

Both variants can carry a 2.4 tonne tool to a maximum height of 15.1 m (50 ft) and have a maximum forward reach of 10.4 m (34 ft). The demolition specification includes a demolition cab, ISO 10262 Level 2 FOPS protection, bolt-on side guards, heavy-duty undercovers, a bucket cylinder guard and a full hydraulic package for tool operations (open, close, rotate).

One key to the design, according to Komatsu, is the narrow width of these machines, easing transportation. The PC240HRD-8 has a maximum track width of 3.28 m (10.8 ft) while the PC240NHRD-8 has a maximum width of just 3 m (9.9 ft), with both having an overall transport length of 13.2 m (43 ft).
