The World Demolition Awards have attracted a record entry for second consecutive year as contractors and manufacturers across the industry compete for high-level recognition in the USA later this year.

The awards, which recognise innovation and best practice in a range of categories, will be presented at a gala dinner during the World Demolition Summit at the city of Boston’s Marriott Copley Place Hotel in October.

Now in their 11th year, the awards have a special place for demolition and recycling professionals as the winners are chosen by people who know the industry. The international judging panel comprises European Demolition Association president Francisco Cobo, Australia’s Clinton Dick, senior North Americans Bill Moore, Dan Costello and Jim Graham, and Europe-based experts John Woodward, William Sinclair, Henrik Bonnesen and Patrick Frye.

As in 2018, the Urban Demolition category has been particularly well supported, and this will again be split into two categories either side of a US$10 million project value benchmark.

There has also been a rise in entries for the Recycling & Environmental and Safety & Training categories, while there has been a strong response to entries in the Manufacturer Innovation categories as is usually the case in a Bauma year.

The World Demolition Summit, which takes place on October 23 and 24, also includes a one-day conference and a networking drinks reception. It is organised in co-operation with the National Demolition Association of the USA with the support of the European Demolition Association, and the headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
