60th anniversary marks ‘new era’ at Cemco

United States-based equipment manufacturer Cemco, a specialist in vertical shaft impact (VSI) crushing systems, is celebrating its 60th year in business with a number of major changes that will see it enter a “new era”.

The family-owned company, which is headquartered in New Mexico and makes both portable and stationary VSI crushing systems for the aggregates, mining and recycling sectors, was founded in 1962 by Mason R Hise.

During its long history Cemco has undergone significant changes and now, in this landmark anniversary year, it has restructured its senior management team for the future, making a number of key appointments.

Chief among them was a change in leadership that saw the company’s long-standing president and chairman of the board, Neil Hise, step aside after 40 years of service to make way for the third generation of the Hise family to take over.

Jennifer Hise-Trujillo, who holds a degree in mining engineering from the New Mexico Instititute of Mining and Technology, succeeded her father Neil earlier this year.

Prior to that she spent 20 years helping to manage Cemco’s sales, operations and production. During which time Jennifer eventually took on the vice president role and began working more closely with Neil and his wife, Ty Juana Hise, who continues to serve as the firm’s chief financial officer.

While Jennifer’s father has retained his position as chairman of the board, her husband Joseph has now “taken ownership of the company’s crushing school training programme,” alongside her father.

Mr and Mrs Hise’s son-in-law, Mike Cummins, has possession of the assembly and final inspection of the equipment.

Jennifer Hise-Trujillo, president of Cemco, said: “Cemco has been a defining part of our family for decades, and we’re proud to have reached this 60-year hallmark.

“As a family-owned business with hundreds of years of combined experience, we’ve been able to provide extraordinary solutions for customers through education, training and quality products.”

From the company’s small beginnings as a crusher repair service in the early 1960s and the sale of its first VSI crusher in 1969 - which to this day is still in service at a mine in New Mexico, Cemco now produces eight different sizes of its VSI Turbo Crusher model and holds numerous US patents for VSI technologies.

With “a unique corporate culture” that has resulted in more than 40% of its employees staying with the business for 10 years or more, Jennifer said: “We’ve seen tremendous growth in the past 60 years, but this is only the beginning.

“As we enter this new era, I’m excited to see the expanded innovations to come and the new relationships we’ll build with operations worldwide.”
