The mobile pilot plant (MPP) was established on a project site near Sofia to carry out crushing, screening, separation and purification of CDW to develop new secondary construction materials. The plant is designed to be mobile and may be relocated for processing or demonstration purposes.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included welcome addresses from EU Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva and Laurentiu Plosceanu, Vice-President of the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC). Also in attendance were Radu Moldovan, Economic Minister at the Romanian Embassy, and Zornitsa Roussinova, President of the Economic and Social Council of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Plosceanu said the project “aims at promoting circular economy practices and resilient construction methods.” He added that such initiatives “provide a significant support to collaborative research across the EU, fostering advancements in areas such as climate change, digital transformation and sustainable development,” and “represent examples of how EU funding can drive meaningful transformation in key sectors.”

FIEC thanked Commissioner Zaharieva for her presence, calling it “a powerful signal of the EU’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation in construction,” and acknowledged the involvement of partners, including the Bulgarian Construction Chamber and Glavbolgarstroy Holding.
