Site welfare goes sustainable with Thermac

British company Thermac Hire has launched what it describes as the United Kingdom’s first fully electric welfare decontamination unit (DCU).

The result of “an intense period of research and development”, the unit has been designed to require less manual handling and be safer to move around, as well as being more comfortable for the user and reducing the owner’s carbon footprint.

“We have seen the evolution of the demolition site over many decades,” the company said.

“One of the main focuses has been on providing decontamination and welfare accommodation which is not only beneficial for site operatives but is greener and more friendly to the environment.”

One of the main features of the electric DCU is that the unit has its own technical room which houses all the main components such as the negative pressure unit, hot water boiler, freshwater tank, filtration systems and central electrical systems, reducing the need to remove the unit from site should any technical problems arise.

“Our hope is that sectors such as construction and demolition look to find more sustainable futures for all sites in the future, from equipment and machinery to disposals of hazardous waste and the production of consumable materials.”
