KDC wins Elstree rejuvenation project

03 September 2012

KDC has been awarded a £1.7 million (US$2.7 million) contract for site clearance, demolition and remediation work on the site of a former business centre in Elstree, Borehamwood in Hertfordshire, UK. The work is part of a £10 million (US$16 million) investment by developers Legal & Property General that will see the construction of nine industrial and warehouse units and a new two-storey hardware store.

Under the contract, KDC will demolish a number of building currently standing on the site, including a six storey office building and various laboratories and workshops.

According to Stephen Hardy, KDC Energy, Utilities and Industrial Sector director, who will be responsible for the work, said: "This project is going to transform the area and we're delighted to be on board. We've won this project not only because of our impressive track record for getting the job done safely and effectively, but because of our plans to ensure minimal impact on the densely populated surrounding area."

"The site is close to commercial and residential properties, so we need to do all we can to prevent disruption to the busy local community. Alternative working hours and state of the art dust suppression equipment are just a few of the plans in place to help contain the project and ensure it runs smoothly. We're on course for a September completion."
