Investing in recycling

10 April 2008

By selecting a mix of processing equipment for several suppliers from General Kinematics, Powerscreen and Kiverco, Scottish contractor Central Demolition has added to the capabilities of its Bonny bridge, Scotland waste processing plant. The company is now confidentthat it can achieve recycling rates in excess of 90% for the waste material that it processes from both its own contracts and materials received from other sources from around Scotland and the North of England.

The new plant added by Central to its existing recycling facilities consists of a General Kinematics Grizzly Separator, a conveyor and a five bay picking station from Kiverco, which lead to a General Kinematics De-stoner and a Powerscreen 615 trommel already used by the company and which carry out the final secondary screening and stockpiling.

Incoming waste is sorted automatically by the Grizzly Separator to produce a bigger midsize of 18-80 mm. The resulting material is then conveyed to the undercover picking station where manual sorting is carried out. The remaining material then passes through the De-stoner and trommel, which separate, screen and stockpile as a secondary process, and clean the mid-sized material after the inert fines have been removed at 10 mm. The resulting clean 10-180 mm material is then combined with clean hardcore from the primary recycling stage for crushing through a recently acquired Terex Pegson XR400 crusher to produce high quality recycled aggregate.
