Volvo on new technology at Diesel Progress Summit

17 July 2019

Volvo Construction Equipment’s Ray Gallant will use his presentation at the first Diesel Progress Summit (DPS) on 30 September to describe the convergence of new technologies in connectivity, electromobility and automation and how these will transform job sites of the future.

Gallant, who is Vice President Sales Support – Americas, will draw on examples from Volvo’s construction equipment as well as its trucks and buses to illustrate how these new technologies could lead to safer, more efficient job sites with reduced costs and CO2 emissions.

Speaking at the Summit in Louisville, Kentucky, on 30 September – the day before the ICUEE show – Gallant will consider the key drivers of change that will disrupt many industries, what technologies Volvo sees as applicable for different applications, and how ‘traditional’ sites and jobs will be affected.

Gallant said he hoped to make delegates feel “excitement rather than apprehension” about the new possibilities, and added; “As an industry, we are very conservative and have sometimes been slow to adopt and adapt new technologies.

“This has to change, and we have to embrace and use these new technologies to full advantage, or risk being pushed out by substitute solutions from entrant companies. In addition, the jobs of the future will require new competencies and skills, and it is incumbent on us to retrain existing workforce and to recruit the new talents we will need.”

The Summit, which also includes an awards dinner in the evening, will consider the future of diesel and the emergence of electrification and hybrid technologies for construction and off-road equipment.
