Seeing through the mist for dust control solutions

To help to combat this threat, Italian manufacturing organisation, the Trime Group, is set to unveil its new range of dust suppression machines.

“This is a new product range from us, but not a new product range for us,” said export manager Simon Dalu.

“The Trime team has over a decade of experience in manufacturing and marketing a complete range of dust suppression machinery. We are now ready to launch this advanced line of equipment under the Tekno-Spray brand.”

Trime engineers have built a series of dust suppression units that incorporate, as standard, a range of features.

Avoiding lifting chains, hooks and slings
All Tekno-Spray products include a package that allows the user to have finger-tip remote control of oscillation and tilting, enabling accurate direction of the water spray for close-control dust suppression.

Trime believes that remote control operation is the safest option, allowing a user to remain at a safe distance, while still having full governance over the performance of the machine they are using.

The sets are also equipped with a safety automatic clutch that stops the cannon’s rotation, in the event of it detecting even the slightest touch.For safe handling and positioning of the unit on site is very important, the units are equipped with a finely balanced central lifting hook and a foldable tow bar, alleviating the need to use lifting chains, hooks and slings.

Trime’s manufacturing plant is near Milan, where the company also manufactures water-saving wash bays, sustainable lighting towers and standard, hybrid and solar powered generators.

Demolition, recycling, and crushing concrete
In a bid to use innovation and technology to make working in demolition and recycling safer and easier, British company Dragon Equipment has developed a mobile compact dust suppression system, the DS110.

It looks to address the growing concern of dangerous dust and air pollution within demolition and recycling, for example the production of silica dust when crushing concrete.

Whether collecting, transferring, recycling or disposing of materials, the DS110 uses a high-pressure piston pump requiring a 36 l/min feed to nebulise 29 litres of water a minute into a spray of water vapour.

Capable of spraying up to 23 m (75 ft), it immediately suppresses any particles in the surrounding atmosphere. As standard, its nozzle can rotate 110° left to right, and 45° up and down, both via remote control or local at the machine, so the spray can target the exact required location. It is built using the same track base and design principles as their popular CR300 compact crusher.

The machine is fully remote controlled, and weighs under 700 kg (1,543 lb), which is said to make it transportable and manoeuvrable.

How to keep personnel away from dangerous areas
Dragon says the DS110 enables 100% remote control of the unit from tracking into position, creating up to an eight-point programme with the built in teach function, moving and adjusting the nozzle, and stopping and starting the machine. Control of the entire operation can be completed from a safe distance, or from the safety of an excavator cab, ensuring personnel are never close to any dangerous areas.

The teach function also means the machine can target a specific area with a concentrated and continuous water supply. The DS110 is therefore said to solve several problems within demolition and recycling, including reducing contamination with its high-pressure water lance to clean vehicles and wash wheels before they leave a site, which is especially important as sites continue to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

The United Kingdom subsidiary of Swedish company Dustcontrol AB has been officially certified according to ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety, further highlighting its commitment to provide a reduced ecological impact and safer working environment.

Dust suppression meets materials processing
Terex, a global manufacturer of lifting and materials processing solutions, has launched Aquamist, a dust suppression system that is now available across its materials processing brands: EvoQuip, Fuchs, Powerscreen, Terex Ecotec, Terex Finlay, Terex MPS and Terex Washing Systems.

The system offers an improvement over conventional jets or water-sprays to manage the build-up of dust and better protect workers on job sites by using a high-capacity misting fan that produces finely divided water droplets between 10 and 150 micron diameter. At this size, they easily combine themselves with dust particles of similar dimensions and precipitate them out of the air and, because water-mists “float” more than a conventional spray, they cover and envelop the dust cloud more effectively.
