The British contractor, based in Bedfordshire in the south of England, is already committed to its own Sustainable Standard framework.

And by using the SmartWaste system – a dedicated sustainability and environmental monitoring and reporting software solution developed by the BRE [Building Research Establishment] – Rye Group will also be able to accurately capture and report on its energy, water, materials, transport, and carbon usage.

“This digital waste management solution is a sophisticated tool that accurately measures and reports on waste generated via each project, while enabling us to set clear objectives to reduce our environmental impact, optimising re-use and recycling rates,” said Ben Griffiths, the group’s safety, health and environmental director.

“What’s more, as many of our clients already use digital waste management systems, they will be able to easily access our dashboard gain full insight into each project, in turn helping to achieve their own environmental strategy and resulting net-zero targets.”

In August 2021, Rye Group rolled out the use of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel across its fleet, which it says reduces carbon emissions by 90% and NOx emissions by 30% when compared to diesel.
