Repurpose Aggregates commissions recycling plant

United States-based company Repurpose Aggregates has installed a new recycling facility at its base in Maryland, expanding its capabilities and enabling it to partner with public and private entities to process material from local construction and infrastructure projects.

The company, as its name suggests, specialises in developing aggregate materials from construction, demolition and excavation waste, and is a subsidiary enterprise of recycling firm Harford Minerals.

Its new facility was installed by wet processing specialist CDE Global and features a modular design that enables it to be adjusted to meet customer requirements.

According to the Northern Ireland-based manufacturer, it can process up to 250 t of CD&E waste an hour and produces a range of recycled sand and aggregate products, including washed C33 concrete sand, fine sands and ready mix aggregates such as #8 Stone, #57 Stone and #3 Stone.

The plant comprises CDE Global’s R4500 primary scalping screen, M4500 mobile washing plant, AggMax 253R modular logwasher, Shear Clean Attrition Cells and its DS60-6 scrubbing and washing equipment.

Repurpose Aggregates’ plant also incorporates a Counter Flow Classification Unit (CFCU200) density and size classification system, as well as an A1500 AquaCycle thickener and a Filter Press sludge dewatering system that can recycle more than 95% of the plant’s process water.

The plant, which became operational in April 2022, is currently being used to produce materials including 1” recycled asphalt, 1” and 3¼” gravel, 1” and 3¼” recycled concrete and recycled drain concrete, which are sold to local construction industry contractors as sustainable alternatives to virgin aggregates.

Speaking of the company’s decision to invest in the recycling plant, Miguel Lambert, President of Repurpose Aggregates, said: “We had heard positive reports from a number of other CDE customers and felt confident that they simply had the best technology to meet our needs and aspirations for both our company and the local community.”

He added: “We supply materials that are used in the construction of local housing developments, schools and sports centers. CDE’s vision of creating a better world, a ton at a time, resonated with us as we believe we are making a real difference within the Maryland community through our work.”

Following the comissionning of the plant, Repurpose Aggregates is to host an ‘Open House’ event for local construction industry companies. Attendees will be able to see the new recycling plant up close, with experts from CDE Global on hand to answer questions.

Miguel said: “It is a pleasure to host this Open House with our partners at CDE, to showcase this impressive facility that they have delivered and to highlight the benefits of waste recycling.”
