D&Ri, as an International Media Partner of the European Demolition Association (EDA), explores the latest industry news and developments

The European Demolition Industry Report 2021 from the European Demolition Association (EDA) is insightful and offers enormous value for professionals. This year’s document covers the extraordinary impact that the Covid-19 pandemic had on the sector.

New features of the European Demolition Industry Report include the welcome addition of Austria as well as supplier surveys, whose results will be presented in the form of a Europe-wide cumulative report.

This latest report presents comparisons with previous years, which shows how the sector is ever-evolving, and boasts a series of forecasts from influential industry figures.

Full results of the report will be published in the coming weeks. As a preview, the most notable takeaway from the collective responses of contractors and suppliers is that 2020 has been a stable year.

Contractors point out that 2020 was a solid year in terms of turnover, investment and equipment, with only slight (5% to 15%) reductions.

Although 2020 was arguably a difficult year, just over one-fifth of demolition contractors surveyed reported a significant increase in turnover of more than 15%. Similarly, 14% of the respondents highlighted that their investment increased significantly during 2020.

Suppliers also highlighted stability during 2020. However, in recycling and waste management there have been some slight increases, mainly at the level of turnover and equipment.

The latest report includes a series of forecasts for the current fiscal year. Both contractors and suppliers, always speaking on a European level, pointed out that it will be a steady year with slight fluctuations.

Just under one-third of the demolition contractors surveyed expected their 2021 turnover to be secure, a slightly higher percentage (36%) was recorded from recycling and waste management contractors.

Demolition suppliers were more positive about turnover in 2021, with 45% stating an expectant slight increase of between 5% and 15%. This was echoed by 36% of recycling and waste management suppliers.
