Canadian aggregate recycling firm Calgary Aggregate Recycling has announced a major investment in a C&D (construction and demolition) waste recycling plant to be designed and engineered by wet processing specialist CDE.

The plant will process contaminated soils as well as C&D waste.

Expected to be operational in the third quarter of this year, it will have the capacity to recycle up to 600,000 t of excavated material a year, diverting significant volumes of high-value construction materials from landfill and channelling them back into the construction industry as premium recycled sand and aggregate products.

“This solution will represent all that we strive for in pursuit of a circular economy, facilitating the diversion of vast tonnages of material from landfill, transforming them into high-grade recycled sand and aggregates for the construction industry, while simultaneously restoring land for future use and driving down CO2 emissions,” said Adrian Convery, CDE’s business development manager for Canada.

Calgary Aggregate Recycling president, Travis Powell, added: “Our mission is to reduce the cost of construction – socially, environmentally and economically.”
